Is A Pet Carrier The Right Choice?

When is a pet carrier a better option than a kennel? Pet owners often use both, the carrier when they need to tote their dog around with them and a kennel for other times.

Pet Carrier Vs Dog Crates

When you want to transport your dog from place to place, or simply want to give your dog a more secure place to live in, then there are two options available to you. You could either buy a pet carrier, or you could use dog kennels or dog cages. Both are great methods of having your dog safely transported and placed inside a small area. Which one you choose will depend on your own situation, as well as your pet’s needs.

Many individuals buy dog crates for various reasons. Some buy them so that they can safely store their larger pets in a crate while still allowing them to have some free movement. Dog crates are also good for potty training purposes and for general dog care, although most small dogs cannot fit into the smallest of crates. However, if you do decide to buy a pet carrier then generally smaller sized crates are available as well. A small pet carrier can typically do all of the jobs that a large crate would, whereas, a dog kennel will struggle with a number of those as well.

Using A Pet Carrier For Your Puppy

The Size Of Your Pet Matters

If you are purchasing a pet carrier rather than a crate then there are a number of factors you need to take into consideration. Firstly, the space within the pet carrier is going to be important, as is the durability of the material it is made out of. Cheaper materials tend to break down quite quickly and as a result are not as durable as the more expensive ones. Secondly, make sure that you are purchasing a carrier which fits both your dog’s and yours needs. This is particularly important with larger dogs, as they tend to outgrow their crates in a matter of months.

Your dog’s comfort and safety will be the main points to keep in mind when you are looking at a carrier or a kennel.  Small dogs tend to feel safest in a cozy dog carrier, especially if they can see out of the sides.  Larger dogs will usually need a kennel.  They aren’t going to be carried around by their pet owner and a kennel can become their place of refuge.
