Should You Use A Dog Kennel Or A Carrier?
Is a dog kennel a better way to travel with your dog than a pet carrier? Kennels are sturdier but harder to move easily. Carriers are more portable.
Dog Kennel Or Dog Carrier?
Dogs love to be in a dog kennel whether they’re in training or just enjoying their days playing. A dog kennel is an ideal place for a dog to relax, run, and play and most importantly, to retreat to when he needs a little time away from you. Dog kennels can make great dog carriers, so that you can bring your dog along with you all the time or just for short trips. Kennels come in different designs to fit all types of dog’s personalities. Kennels, crates, and pet carriers can help you find the best fit for your dog.
A kennel or crate allow you to bring your dog inside and close him up to protect him from the elements and other hazards outside while giving him his own little space. Keep your pet safe and secure with crates, pet carriers, and outdoor dog kennels. Flaps and door panels can provide your dog easy entrance to his very comfortable bed and the outdoors. If you live in an area where there are harsh weather conditions then a plastic carrier may not be your best bet. Plastic carriers can be tossed around by kids and can easily be damaged. For this reason, you will need to find a sturdy, durable dog kennel.
Plenty Of Options To Choose From
The variety of dog kennels available today is virtually limitless. Your first consideration should be what kind of function your dog kennels will be used for. If traveling by plane then a cargo holding kennel would be best. These kennels have multiple compartments for storing different types of objects such as toys, treats, etc. They can be stacked on top of each other or on shelves, which makes it easy to move the kennels from place-to-place if you ever had to make a trip across the country.
Pet carriers are also an excellent choice for dog kennels. Pet carriers allow you to take your pet with you when you travel without having to worry about space or handling your pet in an uncomfortable environment. When traveling I prefer pet carriers over dog crates because I always want my pet to have access to the sky. When flying domestic airlines, I usually carry my pet in a carrier over my shoulders so he’s within eye level. Many people prefer to pet carriers to dog crates because they provide extra security and protection to your pet. Pet carriers typically offer extra padding for comfort, straps on the body to hold on to, and pockets for medications, leash, toys, etc.
After determining the type of kennel and pet carrier that would best serve your purpose you need to decide on which material your kennel should be made out of. For travel purposes, metal is generally the best material since it won’t rust, mildew, or attract insect infestation. Some pet owners prefer wood since it is easy to clean, but you must be careful to wipe down all of your dog’s drinking water dishes after using them and keep them in a secured place where they can’t get accidentally splattered by furniture, drinks, or shoes. If you are traveling by car, make sure you check to make sure that all of the door panels are securely locked to prevent anyone from opening the door while you are driving.
Check Airline Rules Before Traveling
If you will be flying domestic airlines consider purchasing airline approved pet carriers that attach to the top of your car. You can use these to transport your dog and protect him from the elements like rain, sun, etc. Many airlines offer special luggage racks or dog travel crates to attach to your seats. Dog kennels and pet carriers are a great investment if you fly frequently, but the investment will be worth it if you never have to kennel your dog instead of traveling with them.
