Potty Training Your Puppy – How to Do it Right and Fast

Potty training your puppy does not need to be difficult, as long as you are consistent with your puppy’s routine and follow the proper steps. Having a puppy means that you will need to deal with other dogs and puppies that come into your home, but they do not need to be an annoyance. The key to training is being consistent and following a plan that suits you both. Having a set time that everything will be done will help keep you on track.

One of the first things you need to look at is accidents, or accidents that occur outside the house. If your puppy has an accident outside, do not chastise him until he has figured out how to tell you that he needs to go potty and where to go potty. He will be able to figure this out soon enough and you will not be making him guess any longer. If he does have an accident, try to take him out to the spot where he usually does his business and see if that makes it easier.  Use treats as a reward, your pet will soon know that his good behavior will result in a treat.

Don’t Start And Stop The Training Process

A common mistake that many people make when it comes to potty training a dog is to start and stop the process too quickly. When you start the process, be sure to walk slowly and with care, and be sure to take your pet out in the special area where he is going potty training. When you take him outside, always with the safety note in hand, be sure to stand still, then move a little closer, then farther away until he gets distracted and goes in the spot you’ve designated. You can also try to lead him out to the kitchen or outside in front of you, so you are always watching him to make sure he does not get lost in any mishaps. There are a few more tips for potty training a dog, but these two tips will help you get started.
